A New Year, A New Theme

I just finished folding a bunch of laundry and watching the Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles. It's been a very relaxing day.

I decided that this year I would give myself permission to be lazy--permission to enjoy a day of doing nothing and not feel guilty about it. I usually spend the rare days off feeling guilty that I should be doing something on my to-do list. Isn't it typical of mothers? There's more to do than there is time, and guilt overrides any opportunity to enjoy laziness.

So, for 2010, I will enjoy my lazy days without guilt and read books without thinking I should be working on something else. (Let's see if this pans out.)

All the crafts I want to learn

I have a strong desire to learn how to knit, crochet, scrapbook, quilt and sew. I have the equipment for most of these projects, and yet I have yet to really complete anything (aside from some scrapbooking pages.) I know how to do quilt pieces on a machine, but don't know how to bind the quilt and finish it. I can knit a scarf, but I can't knit anything that is nt a flat or straight knit. I can't crochet yet, but I have the needles. I have a set of curtains for my daughter's room cut out, but can't figure out how to put it together. I am the consummate starter of things I have not finished. But I really love learning things. But I get bored, discouraged or just annoyed. I need to learn how to learn to read a pattern, but I don't have the patience.

So, my goal this year is to master one skills besides scrapbooking. I'm thinking the knitting or quilting. I need something I can do in pieces though. There's a quilt shop that just opened down the road and if their classes are reasonable, I may consider it.

So quilting it is.
